is our new Employee Blog Series. Each week, we’ll spotlight a different employee to uncover their unique personalities and experiences working for Abacus Group. First up in our series is Lisa Chen, an Executive Recruiter in our Information Technology Division.

How long have you been working at Abacus Group?

I have been here for about one year and four months.

What did you do before you met us?

I was the Lead Designated Trainer, Classroom Facilitator, and Star Server at the Cheesecake Factory in Edison, NJ. I also did management and administrative support there. I spent my spare time using Adobe Photoshop, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript codes for front-end development, user interface, and blog design.

How did you hear about us?

I learned about an open opportunity at Abacus Group through a recruiter on LinkedIn.

What do you like best about our company?

When I was looking for a new opportunity, I would often get approached by recruiters who didn’t really take the time to listen to what I wanted. This is not the case for Abacus Group – I love the approach that our company takes for recruitment. Being on the job market is stressful! The recruiters at Abacus Group are really dedicated to streamlining the process for candidates and making sure that their concerns are heard. I love this!

How would you describe yourself in three words?

Adaptable, logical, and observant.

If you could have any other job, what would it be?

I love my job here! But if I were to have any other job, I would probably want to be a fiction book editor. I am such a bookworm! I have been known to cancel plans or arrive late to events because I’ve been so engrossed in a book.

What advice would you give to someone about being successful in recruitment for IT professionals?

Organization and communication are key. You are basically the middle man, connecting the client and candidate together. Know your client and the position, but also know your candidate. I love creating relationships between my candidates and me. Pro-tip: Google is your best friend! The IT industry is so broad that it is impossible to be a Subject Matter Expert in it all.
