National Staffing Employee Week 2013

Monday, September 16 launched National Staffing Employee Week, an annual American Staffing Association campaign promoting awareness of America’s millions of temporary and contract workers and the agencies that employ them. 

This year’s celebration of National Staffing Employee Week is especially meaningful given the nation’s growing propensity toward temporary employment throughout the economic recovery. As businesses continue to rebound, temporary and temp-to-permanent hiring remain for many executives strategic alternatives to permanent staff additions.

Using this hiring model, employers are supplementing their teams during seasonal surges and ascertaining the suitability of new employees via trial periods. Meanwhile, professionals across all sectors are taking advantage of temporary employment opportunities to transition back into the workforce, sharpen vital skills and reconnect with their chosen fields and industries. 

A May 2013 7.46 percent year-over-year increase in temporary jobs, which brought the total contingent workforce to 2.68 million, validates the trend. Further, a more recent, mid-year report from CareerBuilder, predicts a 10 percent increase in temporary staffing through the end of the year, with permanent hiring projected to remain stable.
