Resumes have always been a vital part of the hiring process.  A resume provides a concise snapshot of one’s professional history, and a quick way to assess one’s eligibility for a vacant position.  The problem is that the candidate behind an impressive resume may fall short in terms of personality, passion and intelligence.  Human Resources thought leader Dr. John Sullivan addresses this concern in an ERE article, in which he argues that the presentation of biased, unreliable historical information fails to show an accurate picture of potential contributions to an organization.

With the average job lifespan trailing five years, current employment patterns demonstrate little but stability. Among Millennial workers – who comprise about a quarter of the national workforce – typical job duration drops to just three years.  Evidently, jobs rarely turn into lifetime positions.  Over the course of one’s entire career, the median number of jobs held exceeds 10, regardless of educational attainment.
